Planned Parenthood of Maryland has a firm commitment to privacy and wants users of the PPM Web site to feel comfortable and secure in their use of the PPM Web site. The PPM "Web Site Privacy Policy" explains the PPM position on information gathering and how we intend to use any data we may collect from PPM Web Site users.   1. Personal Information You Choose to Provide There are certain actions and areas of the PPM Web site that will require you to provide personal information in order to make use of some Web site features. These include:

    • becoming a member of our Action Network
    • making a donation
    • paying your bill
    • requesting Emergency Contraception, or a prescription refill
    • registering for a Training
    • requesting a speaker
    • sending an e-mail to PPM via the Web site


    You should be aware that we use third-party vendors to provide services on the PPM Web site and in our off-line business operations. The information that you submit on this site may be provided to those vendors on a confidential basis so that those vendors can provide services (such as maintaining our databases, sending e-mail messages to activists, facilitating our fundraising activities and campaigns, or processing credit card transactions) on our behalf. Other than as described in this privacy policy, or as may be necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of our organization, our clients, or others, or as may be necessary to comply with applicable law, PPM will not give or sell the personal information you provide online without your advance permission.

  2. Financial Information You Choose to Provide If you choose to make an online donation to PPM, pay your bill on-line, request medication refills on-line to be mailed to you, order publications, or register for a training, you will have to provide your credit card number and billing information. All credit card information is collected and transferred over the Internet to secure servers. It is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, the industry standard security technology that is designed to protect sensitive information. Your communication is authenticated using Verisign certificates, and Web pages that collect credit card information display the Verisign Secure Site Seal to assure you that the Web page is authentic and that all transactions are secured by SSL encryption. The credit card information that you provide is used only for the single purpose for which you provided the information (donation, bill payment, medication refill request, publication order, or training registration. It will not be used for any other purposes.

  3. If You Join the PPM Action Network You will receive informational updates and action alerts on reproductive rights issues. You will also be added to PPM's donor list and database and will receive fundraising campaign communications and news from Planned Parenthood. Our activist network is an electronic network, and therefore we need an e-mail address to contact you. We also need your full postal address in order for our systems to match you to the correct state and federal districts, thereby ensuring that you are primarily sending messages to your designated elected officials.

  4. If You Choose to Donate to PPM No list of PPM donors shall be loaned, given or sold to any individual or organization outside of Planned Parenthood for any purpose without Board approval. Donors shall have the opportunity to have their names removed from lists which are loaned, given or sold to any individual or organization. PPM's Annual Report contains the names of donors, except those donors who have requested their donation be anonymous. The on-line donation function provides a means for donors to mark that they want to be anonymous.

  5. Technical Information When you access the PPM Web site, some information about your computer and your visit are automatically collect and stored in log files. This information includes information such as your computer's (or your ISP's) Internet Protocol (IP) address (this is not your e-mail address); the domain from which you access the Internet (e.g., "AOL.com" or "Princeton.edu"); the name, version, and specifications of your computer and your computer's operating system; the Internet address of the Web site, if any, from which you came to our site; the date and time you arrived at our site and how long you spent on the site; and which pages you visited. We use this information to formulate statistics (possibly with the help of outside experts) that show the number of visitors to the different sections of our site and to help us make our site more useful to visitors. For example, we use the browser information to help us design our Web site so that as many people as possible will be able to view the pages correctly. These statistics do not reveal personal information.

  6. Links to Other Internet Web Sites Other Internet Web sites or services that may be accessible through the PPM Web site have separate data and privacy practices that are independent of PPM, and PPM disclaims any responsibility or liability for their policies or actions. Please contact those Web sites directly if you have questions about their privacy policies.

  7. Security While we strive to protect your personal information and privacy, we cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other information you disclose online will never be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this policy. We intend to cooperate with all law enforcement inquiries and with other third parties as we believe necessary in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property rights infringement or any other activity that is illegal or may expose PPM to legal liability. Data or information supplied on our Web site also may be subject to eavesdropping, sniffing, spoofing, forgery, spamming, tampering, "impostering", breaking passwords, harassment, fraud, electronic trespassing, hacking, and other limitations of the security and/or authentication features of our system. You also acknowledge that PPM's Web site potentially may include viruses and/or other material that could permit unauthorized access or cause potential damage to the data and information on your computer.
